There are a couple different venues of writing listed above. First is writing for you: bios, book jackets, ghostwriting, queries, synopses. It about presenting you to your audience of one (agent, editor, publisher, mom) or many (your readers, siblings, coworkers).

Writing is a personal expression of your thoughts, your perception of the world, an outlet for your imagination. When you write something, you create a place to share your expressions. Readers step into your world and want to feel enriched by your expressions.

When someone writes for you, you want them to capture the real you. When writing something like a book jacket or a query or some other marketing blurb about yourself, you feel like you’re pontificating, exaggerating, or literal hike up your knickers bamboozling.

It’s tough to write about yourself. It’s tough to present yourself. You’re very close, you and you. It’s hard to see where one ends and othe other begins, isn’t it? I think this is where so many writer’s fail. They may have a terrific read, but you didn’t dazzle the editor or agent.

On the other hand, if you’re quite comfortable with that sort of thing, you may need to sound less like yourself. Your readers, including editors, etc., like confidence, but not an out and out rodomontade.

In both these instances, one can use another writer to write these things for you. It’s much like writing a feature for a newspaper. Keep the real and juicy, add some condiments, and give it a hearty bun.

Second is writing for you: articles, column, magazine articles, reviews, shorts, poems, blog. It is what I’ve produced and what I have yet to produce. There are plenty of examples throughout this site of my style and taste.

For examples on my site, look in Story Shelter, Poetry Park, Violet Wild, and Review River. For article examples, click on one of the feeds in the right-hand column. My blog is found in Shawniverse.

If you like my voice, want to use something already existing or want something new, I know you won’t be disappointed.
